Are you eligible?

If you are new to Social Services, before anything else, you need to know if you are eligible to get support under the Fair Access to Care Services criteria. To find out, you can contact the Access Team in Islington Social Services. Their number is 020 7527 2299.  If you want help with this please contact IBASS.
If you already have support from Social Services or a social worker, ask them about getting a Personal Budget.

3 steps to getting a Personal Budget

Once you know if you are eligible, these are the steps to follow:

Step 1:- You say what your needs are by completing a Supported Self Assessment Questionnaire. This is your own view of what your support needs are and how you want to live your life. Social Services will give you an estimate of how much your Personal Budget will be, and how much you will have to pay yourself (this depends on your financial circumstances).

Step 2:- You create your Support Plan, how you spend your money to get your support and achieve your goals.  The plan can be creative and whatever you want, as long as it meets your needs and is legal. Social Services then have to agree your plan and decide how much money you will get in your budget.  You can choose to have your Personal Budget as a direct cash payment and buy and manage the support you need yourself.

Step 3:- Put your plan into action, start spending the money in your budget on things to support you make your life better. Check how things are going after 6 weeks and make any changes. Have a review after a year, or sooner if you need to, to check how it is going.
