IBASS
Disability Action in Islington run an independent Individual Budgets Advocacy & Support Service called IBASS. We provide local people taking up Individual Budgets with independent advice and support.
IBASS is run by 3 local organisations and you can choose which one you want to support you with your Individual Budget:
- Disability Action in Islington run by and for disabled people
- Elfrida Society who provide services to people with learning difficulties
- Age Concern Islington who provide services to older people
Our 3 organisations have been working alongside and providing information, advice and support services to disabled and older people in Islington for many years. We know what services are available locally and are committed to supporting the people we work with to get the best possible outcomes.
Islington Council have funded IBASS and it's free - you will not have to pay for our support.
The IBASS support service can help you to:
- Decide whether Individual Budgets are for you
- Identify your own needs, goals and what you want to achieve and to complete the Self Assessment Questionnaire
- Think through what support you want and help you make a support plan
- Set up your support plan and organise your support
- See how it has worked by attending your 6 week review
The IBASS advocacy service provides independent representation if you are unhappy with the Individual Budgets process or the decisions made, for example:
- Challenging the budget that is set for you (if you feel it wont allow you to meet your needs)
- If the Support Plan you develop is not agreed by your care manager.
We have no control over the decisions that the Council make regarding your Individual Budget but we will support you to challenge and question the decisions they make.
How to contact us
To use our service you must be referred by a Care Manager or the Councils Access Service. They will ask you some questions to see if you can have an Individual Budget and then they will pass your case onto us.
We will then contact you and make an appointment to see you. You can arrange to have a friend or family member present at any of our appointments with you.
