Disability Reference Group

The Disability Reference Group is a new group to monitor and review the councils progress on their Disability Equality Scheme (DES) and Action Plan. It is made up of 12 local disabled people - 2 from each of the 6 main impairment groups and will run for the 3 years of the DES.

The Reference Group meets every 3 months to look at reports from council departments that say what they have doing to improve disability equality. The group also receive reports from DAII which tell them about the experiences of a broader group of disabled people in the borough, known as Council Access Reporters (see below).

The Disability Reference Group passes on their comments, queries and recommendations directly to the Disability Equality Performance Group, which is the Islington Council committee to look at each departments progress on disability equality.

A facilitator from DAII attends each Reference Group meeting to support members and record the outcomes of the meetings.

Council Access Reporters

Council Access Reporters are local disabled people who volunteer to comment on their experience of trying to access or use any council service.
They pass these comments on to DAII, who use them to make a report for the Disability Reference Group.

We are always looking for more people to get involved! The more comments we get, the better feedback we can give to the council.

If you would like to volunteer to be a Council Access Reporter or would like more information, please contact Liz Mercer on 020 7354 8925 or email liz@daii.org

Drop-in sessions for Deaf Council Access Reporters

BSL interpreted drop-in sessions are being held on the first Wednesday of every month for Deaf Council Access Reporters.

Come along and report if you have had problems trying to access or use any council service.
