Access Islington
This is a project to support local Deaf and disabled people to improve access to goods and services.
Access means getting in to places and being treated as well as anybody else.
The aims of Access Islington are to:
- support Deaf and disabled people to sort out access problems via our access hotline, advice and casework representation service
- provide free information and training on their rights under Part 3 of the Disability Discrimination Act 1995
Access Islington is currently being restructured, with new staff and a new programme of activities and services starting in Autumn 2008. We will soon be updating this section with the latest information. In the meantime, if you are interested in the project or have any questions, please get in touch see contact details at the bottom of this page.
Campaign Work
We support and enable local Deaf and disabled people to campaign to improve access to goods and services in the Borough.
This work can involve mystery shopping, research and lobbying local service providers as well as raising awareness of disability access issues more generally.
Information, advice and casework representation service
Access Islington provides 3 levels of support to individual disabled people experiencing problems accessing services:
- Information on access and Disability Discrimination Act issues.
- Advice on access and Disability Discrimination Act; we can offer individual advice to Deaf and disabled people on their rights and how best to raise access needs and issues.
- Casework representation on access and Disability Discrimination Act; we can take on cases and provide representation up to and including going to Court
When you report issues to us you have a number of choices. You can:
- Just report it to us and take no further action
- Report it to us and get advice on how to take it further
- Report it to us and get help/ representation to make a complaint or pursue the issue through the courts.
For more information, please contact Access Islington.
