Threat to DLA and AA
28/10/2009
You may or may not have heard of the potential threat to Attendance Allowance and the care component of the Disability Living Allowance proposed in the Govt consultation green paper 'Shaping the future of Care together'.
The proposal is to remove the benefit from individuals and use this money instead to help fund a National Care Service. DAII are strongly opposed to this plan that will plunge 4 out of 10 disabled people below the poverty line and remove for many the small amount of choice and control they have over their lives.
There is also little evidence that those who will have their AA/DLA taken away will be eligible to access any care services - majority of people in receipt of AA/DLA are currently not eligible for support under Fair Access to Care services and unless the eligibility criteria is lowered people will not get this benefit back in the form of care/support
The consultation on the green paper ends on 13th November 2009 so you still have time to make your views heard. You can:
- Email Jeremy Corbyn MP at corbynj@parliament.uk or Emily Thornberry MP at emilythornberrymp@parliament.uk
- Sign the No. 10 petition here. Over 17,000 people have signed the petition so far!
