Welcome to Disability Action in Islington (DAII) an organisation run by and for disabled people. We aim to support disabled people, so that they:
- gain more control and choice over their lives
- have better access to services and opportunities
- are able to challenge exclusion and discrimination.
DAII also works to raise awareness of the needs, interests and views of disabled people in Islington and to promote a more accessible and inclusive environment.
We meet our aims by providing a range of free, high quality, fully accessible and innovative services that help equip disabled people with the information, knowledge, support, training and opportunities they need to live the lives they want.
Social Model of Disability
The Social Model of Disability rejects the medical idea that the 'problem' lies with the individual disabled person who is 'sick' and in need of a 'cure'. Instead it puts forward the view that it is the way society is run and organised that is the 'problem' not the individual disabled person.
