More control and choice in your life
A key area of work for DAII is supporting and enabling disabled people in Islington to have a say in the services they use and the services they would like to receive.

DAII believe that disabled people themselves are experts about the needs they have and about how best to meet them. Service providers, who carry out meaningful consultation with disabled people, benefit from their direct experience. Meaningful consultation results in better, more efficient and needs led services.
Since 1996 DAII has run a range of projects that have enabled different groups of disabled people to speak up and be heard. DAII also provides information and advice to service providers, enabling them to effectively involve and consult with disabled people.
Here are a couple of examples of work we have carried out recently:
- We facilitate the LBI Disability Reference Group (DRG), which is made up of 12 local disabled people from across the impairment groups. The role of the DRG is to monitor and review the Councils progress on their Disability equality Scheme (DES) and Action Plan.
- We facilitate the Homes for Islington (HFI) Disability Panel. The panel is made up of 12 disabled tenants from across the impairment groups. The role of the panel is to provide HFI with a user perspective on performance, and to comment on specific policies and procedures and their impact on disabled tenants.
